The high growth of automation in process industry, especially process control across large user sites like oil refining and petrochemical plants, the steel industry, power stations etc. necessitates the reliable transmission of electrical signals, process data and control information.

Today, in a continuous process plants like refinery, fertilizer, cement, steel, etc. Various parameters like temprature, pressure flow, level etc are converted in to electrical signals which are fed to the control room. In control room these signals are analyzed and suitable commands are sent to the field to take corrective action. The control room has become the brain of the plant and instrumentation cables are the arteries.
